Exhibition

Our newly-designed exhibition area widens access to the War Poets Collection at Edinburgh Napier University.

Visitors are taken back in time to come face to face with the horrors and unfaltering camaraderie of trench warfare, and to consider the effects of the First World War on the minds and bodies of those men who fought.

Created by staff at the University, exhibition designers Studio SP and multimedia designers CMC Associates, the exhibition provides a glimpse into the minds of the poets, patients and medical staff at Craiglockhart, using contemporary photography, writing, film and memorabilia. We hope it will offer visitors a unique insight into the motivations of Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen and a greater understanding of the important personal, social and medical achievements that occurred within the walls of Craiglockhart.

The exhibition also provides the War Poets Collection with the home it deserves, in the correct environmental conditions that will preserve it for visitors to enjoy today and in the future.

The exhibition was made possible with the generous support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and other organisations and individual donors. It was officially opened on 11th November, 2005 by BBC's World Affairs Correspondent, Allan Little. It is now available to visitors during the opening hours of Craiglockhart Campus Library or by appointment with Catherine Walker, Campus Library Manager, Craighouse Campus.
