Learners in the Co-creation of Knowledge
(LICK) 2008
A one day symposium in emerging pedagogies and technologies
Barceló Edinburgh Carlton Hotel, Thursday 30th October
2008
Welcome to the web pages for LICK 2008, a one day research and
good practice symposium on emerging pedagogies and technologies which was held for the first time in the stunning city of Edinburgh in October 2008. LICK 2008 provided an opportunity for tutors, researchers, and others
involved in Further and Higher Education to share good practice,
research and evaluation work, and views relating to the use and
potential of current and emerging technologies to support learning
and teaching in effective and creative ways that meet the key themes
of the event.

LICK 2008 was attended by around 80 invited speakers, open call presenters, and delegates from across the United Kingdom, and featured a range of papers and workshops relating to the themes of the symposium.
Presenters included a number of experts working at the cutting edge of research, theory and practice in emerging technologies and progressive pedagogy. The keynote speakers for LICK 2008 included Professor Betty Collis and Dr Martin Oliver, while Professor Terry Mayes facilitated the interactive plenary session, and Professor John Cowan concluded the day by offering his closing thoughts on what he had read in the submissions and observed on the day.
Unsually for a national symposium, and in keeping with the co-creation of knowledge focus of the event, the proceedings for LICK 2008 were published after the symposium. This provided presenters with an opportunity to amend their papers based on discussions that occured during their sessions, and also allowed for the capturing of the intervactive plenary and Professor John Cowan's closing thoughts (both of which were recorded and written up as chapters within the proceedings).
A PDF copy of the full proceedings for LICK 2008 are freely available to download.
Limited print copies of the proceedings are available from e-mailing Dr Keith Smyth at Edinburgh Napier University. In addition, PDFs of individual papers and copies of presentations are available from the Programme link on the left side menu of this page.
