Introduction - Peer Assessment

Marketing and Research – Peer Assessment

The project aimed to encourage learners to take ownership of their own learning, encourage group participation, improve negotiation skills and group working skills generally, whilst still allowing for different learning styles.

In addition to being part of the TESEP project, these aims were also in keeping with Napier university’s aims to imbed the learning of transferable skills into its modules and courses.  It was also hoped that the peer assessment system would help to alleviate some of the inherent problems with assessed group work, most notably variable contributions to the work from the learners.  This can present a particular problem with learner groups, especially when their marks are counted towards their final degree classification.

This project focussed on the following TESEP principles:

  • personalising learning
  • encouraging social and collaborative learning
  • ensuring regular feedback and self-diagnosis
  • Using technology effectively to enhance learning.
