Introduction - NQ Higher Psycology
Course Details
NQ Higher Psychology provides learners with the opportunity to gain an understanding of psychological theories, concepts and studies.
The course is awarded by SQA and includes 3 units:
- Psychology: Understanding the Individual
- Psychology: Investigating Behaviour
- Psychology: The Individual in the Social Context
The project focused on The Individual in the Social Context.
The unit was previously delivered using a lecture and tutorial format. The learners were expected to attend a weekly lecture and were then encouraged to engage with the content in a tutorial lesson; for example, learners presented studies back to the class, produced essay plans and completed extended response questions.
The majority of learners are on full-time access courses, completing 3 or 4 Higher qualifications at the college. The learners are diverse in terms of age, confidence, core skills and experience of education.
Awarding of the Higher is dependent upon the learner successfully completing internal closed-book assessments (NABs), based on the learning outcomes, a research investigation and a final exam.
The course has clear outcomes, set by the SQA, which inhibits learner empowerment in terms of the learning being driven by the needs and interests of the learner.
