Involving students in curriculum design and development

Welcome to the website of the first Hearing the Student Voice project which focused on using the student voice to enhance professional development in learning, teaching and assessment within higher education. Further details are provided in the Project outline.

The project was led by Edinburgh Napier University with partners at the University of Central England, Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Westminster. Further details of the individuals involved in the project, together with their contact information, can be found in Project team.

The team developed in-depth case studies of innovative practice which were shared with the sector. Case studies lists and provides brief summaries of each of the case studies developed, includes the full case studies (comprising the developer's commentary and student and staff evaluations) and provides guidance for staff in how to develop their own case study. The case studies were written up using a common template developed for the project and this – together with the student and staff evaluation forms and the student permission form – are available for downloading.

Project dissemination events were held in London, Leeds and Glasgow in 2007 and the project team also contributed to a number of conferences. Further details of all these are provided in Events. Several publications were developed including papers, posters and the project final report. For details of these and to download the final report visit Publications.

The project team have now received additional funding to support a second project related to hearing the student voice. For further information about this project which is investigating how to involve students in curriculum design and development, visit the Hearing the student voice: curriculum design website.

A book for academic and educational development staff on the contribution the student voice can make to enhance the learning experience which will embrace the work and outcomes of both projects is planned.
