How might you structure a presentation?

Some examples of typical structures are:

Essay type

An 'essay' type where you develop an argument

  • Introduction: why the title is significant; what you are going to talk about in the order you will present
  • Main section: present your key points backed up by evidence
  • Conclusion: summarise your position after balancing the evidence

Report

A report on an investigation

  • Introduction: why the investigation was carried out and what is hoped to achieve
  • Method: how the investigation was carried out
  • Results/Findings: what was found – key points
  • Discussion: what this means, its significance and consequences
  • Recommendations: what next? (You may not need this section.)

Proposal

Problem Solving

  • Introduction: reference to the title; what you are going to talk about in the order you will present
  • Brief description of the problem
  • Comparison of different solutions
  • Option chosen and why
  • (Likely or hoped for) Results of implementation
