Key steps in academic poster design

  1. Analyse the task
    What is the purpose of the poster? Who is the target audience and what do they need to know?
  2. Research the information
    Locate information sources. Make notes. Collect references.
  3. Plan content
    What is the main message? What are the key points? How will you attract your audience, and keep their attention?
  4. Design
    What might work best as text, what as graphics? Design layout. Format text and graphics.
  5. Input, edit and test
    Input content. Proofread for content and spelling. Check print quality.
