The MA Screenwriting programme is offered on a full-time or part-time basis and aims to equip you with the creative, professional and technical knowledge and craft skills required by the professional screenwriter across a range of film, television and interactive media.

The course is delivered through a series of lectures, seminars, screenings, workshops and tutorials. There are regular masterclasses and visits from professionals working at the highest level in the film, television and interactive screen industries.

Although there is a substantial taught element the programme has a strong project-based emphasis and you are expected to write a number of proposals, treatments and scripts, of varying lengths and in a variety of genres, thus developing a range of skills and experience as well as a substantial portfolio of work.

The MA Screenwriting programme shares a number of modules with the MA Screen Project Development. This gives you the chance to collaborate with aspiring producers, development executives and script editors. You will also have the chance to meet and work with other students at Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburgh College of Art and across the UK-wide Screen Academy network and to present your work to visiting industry professionals.

Screen Academy students can  buy an Industry Pass at a heavily-discounted rate and to attend screenings, masterclasses and networking events at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June.
